The state’s task force will meet within 60 days of July 1, finalize committee members by July 31 and deliver findings by December 15. That likely puts the earliest possible legislative action in the January 2024 session.

Neighboring states Tennessee, Louisiana and Arkansas already legalized online sports betting in 2019, 2021 and 2022, respectively. Alabama has not yet legalized online sports betting despite several legislative attempts since 2019.

How Many Sportsbooks are There in Mississippi?

There is only one online sportsbook in Mississippi, BetMGM. To place wagers on their app or website, you must be physically located at one of their casino properties in the state. Cedric Burnett tried three times in the four years between 2018 and 2022 to legalize mobile sports betting.
